Origins: Corrupted Children of Middle-earth
The origins of Orcs can be traced back to the first Dark Lord of Middle-earth, Morgoth (also known as Melkor). According to J.R.R. Tolkien’s most widely accepted account, Morgoth kidnapped some of the earliest elves in Middle-earth and corrupted them through torture and dark sorcery, creating the first Orcs.
This process of corruption was made possible by Morgoth’s inability to create life on his own. After Morgoth’s imprisonment by the Valar, his Orcs continued to multiply and became the backbone of his armies during the First Age.

A more specific subtype of Orcs are the Uruk-hai, bred by Saruman in his tower of Orthanc during the events of The Lord of the Rings.
