A Glimpse into Middle-earth’s Untold Years

Embark on a captivating journey through the chronicles of Middle-earth, unveiling the events that transpired between the enchanting tale of The Hobbit and the epic saga of Lord of the Rings.

The Unraveled Threads

As Bilbo, the charming Hobbit protagonist, embarks on his unexpected journey with a band of dwarves and a wizard, a character we all know, Aragorn, was 10 years old. This means that Aragorn was 87 when he traveled and protected Frodo during Lord of the Rings.

During The Hobbit and leading into Lord of the Rings, Aragorn was raised in the protection of Elrond and traveled with his elvish brothers all across Middle-earth. He joined the Dune Dane, a group of men who shared his Numenorean descent, a lineage which gave Aragorn longer life than the average human.

Perhaps most interestingly, Aragorn was asked by Gandalf during those 60 years, which separate the two stories, to track down the creature Gollum and attempt to discover the true story of the whereabouts of the Ring of Power. Aragorn also went undercover in Gondor’s army to fight against Sauron.

A group of dwarves also attempted to re-inhabit the ancient dwarven mines Kaza-Dume or Mines of Moria during these 60 years. A journey which we discover in The Fellowship of the Ring was, for many dark reasons, absolutely unsuccessful.

Also, the kingdoms of Middle-earth changed rulers with Thaeod reigning during these years. The events that led to this change and the impact it had on the upcoming struggle against Sauron will be explored in future chronicles.

When did Gandalf know Bilbo had The One Ring?

Despite his vast knowledge and wisdom, Gandalf was not immediately aware that Bilbo possessed the Ring of Power. It wasn’t until after Bilbo returned from his adventures and the events at Rivendell that Gandalf discovered the truth about the ring.
